The Interreg Euro-MED Programme supports cooperation across Mediterranean borders, aiming at making the region smarter, greener and improving the governance between its stakeholders. It provides funds for projects developed and managed by public administrations, universities, private and civil society organisations.
The Programme brings together partners from 69 regions of 14 countries from the Northern shore of the Mediterranean with a common objective: a climate neutral and resilient society for the benefit of its citizens.
Interreg Euro-MED supports projects, initiatives and policies related to climate change and the environment in line with the priorities and specific objectives set out by the European Commission for the Cohesion policy. The total Programme budget amounts to about 294M€ for the 2021-2027 period.
The Interreg Euro-MED Programme funds projects willing to bring solutions to answer 4 complementary missions that will help to find concrete and shared solutions to global challenges. In order to improve the quality of human life and ensure a sustainable growth in the region, the Interreg Euro-MED Programme put the environment at the heart of each mission:
Mission 1: Strengthening an innovative sustainable economy
Projects under this mission will increase the capacities of public and private organisations to implement and coordinate Regional Innovation Strategies and reinforce the competitiveness of SMEs accelerating the transition to a circular and sustainable economy.
Mission 2: Protecting, restoring and valorising the natural environment and heritage
Projects under this mission will promote climate change mitigation and adaptation measures and encourage the sustainable management of natural resources and restoration of degraded ecosystems.
Mission 3: Promoting green living areas
Projects will tackle this challenge through the development of greener living areas, and will work to minimise their impact on the Mediterranean and the global climate system focusing on air pollution, energy and mobility
Mission 4: Enhancing sustainable tourism
Projects will address the development of sustainable tourism as a transversal issue: fostering tourism integrated in circular economy, considering the sustainability of ecosystem services using innovation technologies, or promoting the preservation of natural resources and cultural heritage.
